Types of Baccarat Games

Baccarat is one of the most popular casino games today. The game has always been considered elite since it requires a combination of knowledge and skill. However, Baccarat is a pretty simple game that has also become popular for the low house edge when compared to other table games, at online casinos.

Over the years, different types of baccarat games have emerged, this is usually based on the country the game is being played. The rules are usually similar, with the only differences being player interactions and drawing rules. The three different types of baccarat include: Punto Banco, Baccarat Chemin De Far and Baccarat Banque.

Punto Bunco

This game usually involves 12 to 14 players seated in a large table and 3 dealers who control the action and pay-outs. Punto Bunco is a popular game in the United States due to the accessibility and speed of the game.

Players are supposed to bet on either banker or player, and then the cards are dealt. The hand with the highest total closest to 9 is the winner. It is up to the player to decide whether the banker or player will win and place their bet. If you bet on Player, you just need to place the number of chips you have selected in front of the numbered seat. If you have placed your bet on Banker, you will need to pass your bet to the dealer who will place it in a small box. You can also bet on a standoff.

After placing all the bets, the player who occupies seat 1 becomes the bank and starts dealing the cards. The dealer then rearranges the cards. If you choose the Mini baccarat version, the cards will be dealt by the dealer.

The first and third cards are dealt to the player and the second and fourth card to the banker. Once both parties have their cards, the next step will be determining whether an additional card should be taken out.

Winning bets are usually paid 1:1; however, you shouldn’t underestimate the commission you are supposed to pay to the casino. As for odds, placing a bet on the banker increases your chances of winning, whereas the house edge for standoffs often exceed 14%

Chemin De Fer

This is a French variation of baccarat where the players compete against each other instead. The game is played using 6 decks of cards on a large table. The payer that deals the card takes the role of the banker while the other players become punters. Then the bank places a wager, which is usually the highest amount he is willing to risk and he is indebted to match up bets for all punters to this amount.

The bank then deals out one hand for himself and another for other player’s representative, faced down.  If an 8 or 9 is dealt, the announcement is made and the two hands are compared to determine the winner. If that doesn’t happen, the banker and player may take out a third card. Despite the fact that there are no rules, draw patterns will be similar. The winner is then determined and paid out. The 5% commission is deducted from banker bets.

A small twist of the betting rules may see the banker wagering the full amount he is willing to risk. In this case, the players may bet up to the full bank; however, if the banker’s bet isn’t matched by other player, spectators may bet until the bank is matched fully.

EZ Baccarat

This is a slightly different type of baccarat. Although the drawing rules are similar to those offered at Punto Bunco, Banker’s payment is improved. Unlike classical Baccarat where players get payouts at odds of between 19 and 20, EZ make even payouts (1:1).

However, before you get excited about EZ, you should know that this game doesn’t give you an edge over the house. If the bank gets a win with a total of 7, and has three cards, you don’t get paid as it is considered a push. This means a commission of around 4.9% is charged, which makes the house edge in this type of baccarat slightly smaller.

There are also two betting options that are unseen: Dragon 7 and Panda 8. The former shows that the banker uses three cards to win an 8 point value and has to win for your bet to win. That means that if the player gets 9, you lose. For Dragon 7, you get a payout at 40:1 odds and has a house edge of 7.61%.

You can win Panda 8 in the opposite way. Panda has a payout odd of 25:1 and a big house edge of 10.17%.

Baccarat en Banque

This is another European variant of Baccarat. The game is played using three deck cards and the player willing to take up the biggest risk becomes the banker. The rule for this game varies from one club to another, but they are similar to those that apply for Chemin de Fer.

Super Plan 9

This game was founded in the United States and uses a deck of 36 cards. Only face cards are used and Aces, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. The players deal three cards at the start and can draw another card with the goal of getting close to 9.

Three Card Baccarat

This game is widely played at Casinos in Asia and Macau. One deck of card is used and the banker and player get three cards. The rules for this game are different from those of conventional baccarat. Three face cards is the highest possible hand.
